Mukteshwar temple in Bhubaneswar is considered as one of the jewels of the famous Kalinga Architecture and looking at the intricacies and detailed carvings on the walls of the temple, you would also agree with me! Today it proudly resides with all its beauty and grandeur on a hilltop in the “city of temples”.
The temple is made out of white marble is dedicated to the beloved Hindu deity Lord Shiva! There is a copper yoni in the temple and is surrounded by the sculptures of Brahma, Vishnu, Parvati, Ganesh, Hanuman, and Nandi.
You can easily reach the temple by taking regular town busses, now called the “MO busses” available in both normal and with air conditioning transportation, or by hiring taxis or autos from anywhere in the Bhubaneswar which is connected to other cities and places by road, rail and air transportation.
“Mukteshwar” literally means “the one who provides ‘Mukti’ or salvation, the ultimate freedom”, this analogy is depicted in a very expressive way through the carvings on the wall and emphasizes all the forms of art that trace back there origin to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is the pioneer of Yoga and meditation.
Today the world is going crazy the philosophy of spirituality and meditation, which have been a lifestyle in India since time immemorial. The Indian classical music and the Indian classical dance forms also trace back their origins to Lord Shiva.
