A Restaurant named ‘Odia Abadha’ which is located in Charbhati in Sambalpur District, hurts the sentiments of devotees of Lord Jagannath, within and outside Odisha as well. The restaurant was supposed to be serving “Abada” or Mahaprasada on Dining Table. A video of the same went viral which shows rice, Dalma, Sabji (Vegetable curry) and Kheer being served on a dining table.
As reported the food in the hotel is served from earthened pots (kodua), on banana leaves. This resembles the way Mahaprasada is served, at Ananda Bazaar inside the Puri Jagannath Dham. The video shows waiters serving the ‘Abadha’ (which is namesake) on the table, while the people are sitting on the chair and having it.
This hurt the sentiments of the devotees and they considered it as an act of insult to the very much respected “Mahaprasada.” Because the Mahaprasada has to be consumed sitting on the floor and on a banana leaf.
Shri. Ajay Kumar Jena, the administrator of Shri Jagannath Temple Administration, said that “serving Abadha in a hotel is definitely an insult to the Lord Jagannath temple Mahaprasad and it more or less hurts the sentiments of people following the Jagannath culture. We will urge the Sambalpur district and police administrations to take strict action against the owners of the restaurant. Mahaprasad should not be consumed on table and chair. This is an insult to the holy Prasad (food). Besides, using the name- Abadha- for commercial gains is demeaning,” he stated.
