The Konark Sun Temple was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1984. Konark heritage area development master plan has been approved and finalized by Odisha Government. The Odisha state government aims to transform the infrastructure around Konark Sun Temple.
To welcome the visitors, a Konark entrance plaza will be built and landscaping will be carried out of about 30 acres of land in front of the temple. Besides, facilities such as multi-modal parking hubs will be built and the Konark Theater will be renovated. For pedestrians, special roads will also be built.
Upgradation of the 3.4 km-long outer ring road to a 6-lane road to divert all traffic and improve connectivity to Konark town. The entrance to the 13th-century architecture will be developed with a grand entry and landscaped areas. redevelopment of the open-air theatre to provide round the year visitor’s experience. Also, around 35 acres of areas near the ASI-protected monument will be beautified with landscaping and tourist amenities.
