The MoU for construction of Kalahandi Medical College & Hospital was signed by State Health and Family Welfare Department & Vedanta Limited in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik The 100-seat medical college & 500-bed hospital will go a long way in ensuring quality healthcare for the people of Kalahandi & adjoining districts.
The tribal-dominated district had hit the headlines of national and international media and caused embarrassment to the State government for its poor health care facilities after the Dana Majhi episode in August 2016.
The MoU was signed in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and State Health and Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena.
The medical college will have intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats, he added.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who was also present on the occasion, said the medical college and hospital will benefit the people in Kalahandi and other parts of western Odisha.
Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of the medical college at Bhangabari in Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters town of Kalahandi, in November 2016.
