Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik on Wednesday appointed renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik as the President of Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi.
The esteemed post had stayed empty after celebrated stone worker and Padma Vibhushan beneficiary Raghunath Mohapatra surrendered following his assignment to Rajya Sabha by the President.
Conceived in Puri in 1977, Sudarsan has been making sand designs on the Puri ocean shoreline, making mindfulness on a few key issues including world peace, an unnatural weather change, tidiness drive among others.
In 2014, Sudarsan was granted Padma Shri, the fourth most elevated regular citizen grant in India,for his commitment in the field of art.
Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi is the apex body in the field of art under the state government.
