The guidelines for offering cash rewards for marriage between people with benchmark disabilities and normal individuals have been updated by the Odisha government. The reward sum under the scheme has now been increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2, 50,000 per eligible pair, according to a letter to Collectors by Bhaskar Sarma, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
As per the revised guidelines, if another person marries a person with a benchmark disability, the cash reward will be granted to either of the spouse with a benchmark disability. But the Matrimony must be dowry-free.
The qualified couple must apply online on the www.ssepd.gov.in website of the department under the Marriage Incentive Application menu. Aadhaar Related Disability Certificate, Marriage Registration Certificate issued by the competent marriage registration authority, Self-attested Postcard Size Joint Couple Photograph, Tahsildar Residential Certificate or any other authentic proof of residence are needed to complete the application form.
The bonus sum will be disbursed to the couple through the Integrated Financial Management System after completion of verification and other procedures (IFMS). The bonus sum is locked in for a term of three years. Withdrawal is permitted in three stages with the withdrawal of 10% of the funds after six months, the next 10% after one year and a balance of 80% of the funds after satisfactory completion of three years of marriage.
“Under a joint signature, the couple may withdraw the amount. The bank shall be told accordingly,’ said the guidelines. “The names of couples sanctioned by the Marriage Reward Awards are shown on the District and State Department of Social Security & Empowerment Persons with Disabilities website, along with the scanned Joint Photograph of the Couple. If refused, the applicant will be told of the reasons for this by the Collector & District Magistrate,’ it added.
