Good news for train passengers, since they can now book unreserved tickets on the Mobile App through UTS.
The Indian Railways have moved to decongest ticket booking counters and ensure smooth enforcement under the COVID-19 protocols with social distancing criteria.
The Railways claimed in a statement that unreserved train services are being implemented in a staggered, wise way.
“In order to avoid any inconvenience to passengers in booking unreserved tickets and to ensure norms of social distancing at booking counters while purchasing the tickets, It has been decided that in addition to UTS ON MOBILE App facility available on suburban sections, this facility may also be reintroduced on non-suburban sections of zonal Railways,”
Zonal Railways were also instructed to allow the UTS ON MOBILE App to issue unreserved tickets whenever unreserved train services are launched by the zonal railway authorities concerned.
The Indian Railways clarified on Wednesday that it imposed slightly higher fares for short-distance passenger trains just to prevent individuals from commuting when it is not very necessary.
